The Radio Access Network (RAN) is the infrastructure providing wireless access to the devices. In each generation it has grown in capabilities and flexibility but also in complexity. In 5G, the radio interface is called 5G NR (New Radio).

Core Networks are responsible for key aspects in mobile networks such as security, registration, mobility and roaming. The 5G Core (5GC) is based on a Service-based Architecture (SBA) designed to be cloud native. This means that learning 5GC is not only understanding their role in cellular networks but also state-of-art IT/Cloud technology.

The landscape of services provided over wireless networks is always increasing. From traditional services like voice and messages, all the way to vehicular and satellite communications, services are always advancing and becoming increasingly complex.
